morning!

I was going to blog this morning about my trip up north last week to see the girls but youngest is not well and i'm totally preoccupied by that.
Last night I phoned and she said she had been ill since Monday with what I presume to be the winter vomiting bug. She hadn't told me Wednesday when we talked as she hadn't wanted to worry me. She was very upset and all I wanted to do was get in the car and drive three hours to sit with her and make her a hot water bottle and make sure she drinks enough.......She said her flat mates are really looking after her, I've checked today and she feels a little better......but what a horrible bloody feeling to be so far away . I do relish the freedom you get having older children but its probably much more of a worry to me now when they are away than when they were tucked up in bed and in sight....if you know what I mean.

Enough!

Just had to cancel plans  to go down to London tonight to have a meal with some friends. The forecast is for light snow and/or freezing rain . No thanks......had a bit of a nightmare getting home Thursday evening after work so dont want to risk that.
I have been to the hairdressers......so all dressed up and nowhere to go....so to speak.

As consolation I have sent Herb into town to buy some wine and goodies and we shall settle in  with this box set. I have watched Don Draper from the start but Herb just didn't bother with it. He moaned like hell when I put it on last night then watched four episodes back to back. Me thinks he is hooked!

Anyhow hardly a hardship. ..we can go another time.

The garden still looks like this.....very very pretty but not when it spoils something I WAS REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO!

Fingers crossed its gone by next weekend. I'm having a girly trip up north with my sister to visit the  girls. Can't wait to see them.

Finished the quilt top yesterday.....still not happy with the blue solid bit but overall I like the effect. I do like very busy quilts. Some, but not all, of the Kaffe Fassett and Philip Jacobs fabric in quilts are amazing.

I am also really taken by some traditional quilts especially the red and white ones.

So have started a little bit of hand sewing......foundation piecing or i think its sometimes called English paper piecing. I have made it harder for myself by splitting the diamonds but I really like the effect.

not sure what it will develop into, but its good to have some hand sewing for when I can watch a good movie.....this afternoons offering is a, saved for a snowy afternoon Rock Hudson drama(you know the one where he marries the women he knocked over ....love it)

happy weekend one and all x

souper week!

Ok so we don't have this yet but the sky is currently so low, almost touching the trees outside, I'm almost willing the snow to fall and be done with it. We have just dashed into town for a paper and milk only to find it practically deserted and Waitrose' shelves almost empty......that's what happens with a snow forecast. Anyhow we are battened down now and lets see what happens.

The souper in the title of course refers to soup, just what this cold snap demands and Herb is the soup champion. Today we have had roasted pepper and tomato and yesterday was broccoli and Stilton.....both equally delicious. The broc and stilton is new to us but a revelation. yum

Am continuing with this today and want to add the double border by tonight if poss. Buying matching solids on line is very difficult....I so wanted a dark midnight blue for the border but a lighter one arrived.....c'est la vie.....not the end of the world.....I'm going to have a go at hand quilting this one and will show you the border next time

Have you discovered pinterest? another great way to while away hours at a time.....I kid you not if I am not careful my backside can be glued to this seat for days and days and nothing gets done. the house is falling down around me....ok I exaggerate, a bit of dust here and there. But check it out its a brilliant way to get ideas for all sorts of things and just some plain old beautiful images.

Saw this film last night, it was recommended by a friend who has recently been to Santa Barbara where the film was set. It was a bit of light relief, nothing serious or heavy but the house where it was filmed was wonderful and I really liked that Streep doesn't seem to have had any face work done, she was kind of looking her age and fabulous(unlike so many actresses and unlike Mr Steve Martin who sports a very weird look around the eyes.) Recommended.

Tonight's looking good, roast pork, saved bottle of Bordeaux and Borgen at 9. If you haven't watched this, try and catch up, its a treat. Not a bad life this empty nesting!! Great weekend everyone
